Dear Friend, Isn’t it exciting to receive a gift? Well, we’re overjoyed because of the gifts you bring to Bon Air UMC! Each person who visits our church (in person or online) is a gift to this community. And we believe we have received a gift in you! We hope you are finding Bon Air UMC to be a place where you are nurtured in your spiritual journey. Regardless of where you are on your faith journey, this tool is for you. It is provided to help you discover or rediscover the spiritual gifts God has given you. Discovering and exercising your spiritual gifts allows you to faithfully live out the life God intends for you. The first part of this tool is an assessment, which is intended to help you identify your spiritual gifts. Please keep in mind that this test was written by people, not by God, and as such it is certainly imperfect. It should be used as a starting place to begin to discover your gifts, but certainly not as an absolute indicator. The test may not always indicate your true spiritual gifts. It is just one tool in what should be a life long search for how God has blessed you so you can bless others. Once you have completed the assessment, you will want to transfer your responses to the box on page 5 of the booklet, in order to determine the places where you are most gifted. Pages 6 through 27 describe each gift, giving its Greek root, a helpful definition, and scripture references to help you learn more. Then, there is a list of opportunities for using each gift in the life of Bon Air UMC. As you learn more about each spiritual gift, you may wish to place a check beside each ministry opportunity that seems interesting to you. To ensure you understand what each ministry opportunity involves, you will find the “Glossary of Ministry Opportunities” on pages 28 through 39. Please take time to peruse this glossary. It will give you a general overview of the kinds of ministries available through this church. This is by no means an exhaustive list. But we hope this will be helpful to you by describing some of the roles and services we value. So welcome to the world of spiritual gifts! We, at Bon Air UMC, believe that ministry is done most faithfully when we know our spiritual gifts and can use them in places we care about deeply. The Bible is clear that God gives to each one of us several gifts which are to be used in building up the body of Christ. Discovering what your gifts are is a basic step in discipleship here at Bon Air. If you have any questions as you are working with this tool, please do not hesitate to contact one of us or a church leader, so that we might help you understand what your assessment says about you. We are here to help you grow in your faith. Please let us know how we can help. William A. Davis, Lead Pastor Lauren E. Lobenhofer, Associate Pastor Click here to discover your spiritual gifts!
